One-line definition
A blindfold removes sight, the entry-level tool of sensory deprivation, trust, and the unknown.
Full definition
Taking vision away does two things at once. Every other sense sharpens, so touch arrives without warning and sound turns into a way of locating things. At the same time the blindfolded person has to rely on trust, since they cannot see what is coming and depend on whoever is bringing it. That mix of heightened sensation and dependence is why a blindfold, one of the simplest things in the toy drawer, shows up in scenes of every intensity.
