One-line definition
Feminization is the consensual practice of having a partner adopt feminine dress, manner, or identity.
Full definition
From a pair of stockings to full makeup, posture, and a new name, feminization runs on a spectrum of intensity. Where the charge comes from varies: the inversion of gendered symbols, the transformation of shame (the “forced” in “forced feminization” is a scripted frame, with everything underneath remaining consensual), or simple delight in the persona being built. It overlaps heavily with sissy dynamics but does not require humiliation; affirming feminization, conducted entirely in praise, is just as real.
Boundaries with related terms
- vs. Sissy. Sissy is an identity label, usually bound to humiliation and submission. Feminization is the process and method, which can be humiliating or affirming in tone.
- vs. Crossdressing. Crossdressing can be a purely personal practice with no power dynamic; feminization in a kink context is usually directed by another party.
- vs. gender identity. Play and identity are different things. A trans person’s gender expression is not feminization play.
