One-line definition
Sensory deprivation cuts down visual, auditory, or other input, which deepens trust, uncertainty, and dependence.
Full definition
Take away sight, then sound, and the world narrows to whatever the other person chooses to provide, so that each touch arrives without warning and feels much larger than it would otherwise. Being deprived this way makes a person heavily dependent on their partner’s guidance, which is why the practice connects so closely to trust, vulnerability, and power exchange. Even a mild version, such as a blindfold on its own, can bring up anxiety or panic, so negotiation and a stop signal that is always available are built in from the start.
