One-line definition
Punishment is the idea of consequences in D/s: a response to broken rules, carried out inside a negotiated frame.
Full definition
Where there are rules, there are usually consequences for breaking them, such as lines to write, privileges taken away, or a position to hold. These range from genuinely corrective, for a real breach handled seriously, to the well-loved funishment, where the punishment is mostly an excuse for play and a brat may earn it on purpose. Which of these a couple uses, and which acts count, gets negotiated like everything else.
Risk reminder
Punishment must never become uncontrolled retaliation or emotional coercion. Rules, limits, and stop mechanisms are agreed before any consequence is ever applied.
