One-line definition
Emotional safety is the felt security that lets participants voice limits, revoke consent, and trust they will be respected and cared for.
Full definition
Physical safety gets the checklists, but emotional safety is the floor everything stands on. It is the lived confidence that saying “stop” will be honoured without punishment or sulking, that limits won’t be mocked, and that vulnerability shown in a scene will be handled with care afterwards. A dynamic can have flawless technique and still be unsafe here, and this is the kind of unsafety that does lasting harm.
